I've been thinking about this for about a year now and worrying what my next project would be.
What do I want to write next?
What sounds interesting?
What ideas do I want to explore more?
OMG, can I even write anything outside of Soothsayer?
All that being said, I do have like 10 different story ideas floating around in my head. So it's not a matter of what to write, but what excites me right now.
And I think I figured it out!
We're going to stick with Myths and Legends for the moment because I love them. Like really, really love them and I always have. But we're going to leave England behind and start to dig into Norse Mythology.
I don't want to write about Thor and Loki, they are everywhere already...unless Chris Hemsworth is going to show up and help me with inspiration, then I'll write anything and everything about Thor. (Side note, I'm in Edinburgh right now while I'm writing this and Chris Hemsworth is here....maybe I should add Thor into the books?!) Really though, I want to explore more of the characters within the world and lore.
Now, this isn't the first time I'm sticking my toe in the water when it comes to Norse Mythology. I've read a few stories casually, in passing. When we were in Denmark a few years ago, I fell in love with the mythology, vikings and witch lore. And I even pulled inspiration from Norse mythology for Elysium.
That's right! Even the Soothsayer Series isn't untouched by Norse Mythology. When I started creating, The Brotherhood of the Realms, they had a different feel to them than the rest of the cast. They were ancient, much older than the Arthurian legends and I wanted to find something that fit them.
Though it's only mentioned in passing, The Helm of Awe that is branded on the Brother's chest, is actually a Norse symbol that warriors use to wear on the helmets for protection. Also, I named the Brothers using Norse mythology and history!
So I guess we have the Brotherhood of the Realms to thank for my next direction.
I love bringing old legends and myths into our world and seeing how they play out. So there will still be an urban feel to the story with a twist of Norse mythology. Maybe the mythology will be secret or maybe it will just be part of everyday life. We'll see!
This is the fun part. When everything is on the table and an options to play with. I don't know what the story will be yet, this is just the first exciting kernel I wanted to share with you all. Feel free to follow along and see where this new journey will take us!
